Within a few upcoming days, whether from college, high school, or graduate programs, many will fulfill generational and life-long dreams of graduating. From the music of “Pomp and Circumstance;” to the transference of the tassel from right to left; to the actual graduation march, for many, life will never be the same. Some will continue their academic endeavors. Others will attempt to conquer the world through professional and entire into professional, occupational feats. Dreams, visions and aspirations are at the forefront of each of these graduates, as they celebrate accomplishments and milestones.

This season of graduation prompt me to ask the question, when does the Christian graduate? I know at the time of death, we graduate from death until life, but when do we graduate from pre-school, to elementary, to Jr. High, to High, to College to Life? What is matriculation like for the Christian?

The Apostle Paul addresses this issue in the fifth chapter of the book of Hebrews. He states:

“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

Too many believers look forward to excelling in their professional, personal, and social life, but give little attention to the growth and maturity in their spiritual. Some don’t see a need to be on “God’s honor roll”. Some skip classes and school, and they are wanted by heaven’s truant officer. Yet there those who see the value of studying to show themselves approved unto God (students), not needing to be ashamed, but rightly dividing the Word of truth. And yes there are those who see the value of maturing from the milk of the Word, to the meat of the Word. They see themselves graduating from life’s circumstances and conditions. They take on and conquer the World for Christ!

Where are you? Are you graduating? Are you on “God’s Honor Roll”? Do you have to repeat a grade? It’s time to see the heaven’s guidance and career counselor to find out what is our gift and calling, and what classes we need to take to graduate.
